One of the world’s largest continuously expanding comparative databases of real-world FDM filament mechanical testing. Every material is tested using the same equipment and methodology, making direct comparisons meaningful and repeatable.

The database includes tensile strength, impact resistance, stiffness, consistency, layer adhesion, and material comparison data across a growing range of consumer and engineering-grade filaments.

Most Consistent Filaments

Consistency score rewards low CV% and slightly penalizes missing/failed specimens. A high score means the measured specimens behaved more repeatably, not necessarily that the filament is strongest. Internal rating bands: 90 excellent, 85 very good, 80 good, 70 moderate, 60 low, and below 60 very low repeatability.

Layer Adhesion Ranking

Higher ratio means better retained strength across layers
By default this chart shows the top 30 materials to keep the ranking readable. Use “Show all” to expand the full filtered list. This is one of the most useful structural-printing indicators: a high ratio means the upright specimen retains more of the flat-specimen tensile strength and the material is less anisotropic under this test method.

Material Family Heatmap

The heatmap is intended as a quick beginner-friendly overview. It averages visible materials by base material family, so filtering changes the table.

By default, averages use the selected filament’s reinforcement group, so unfilled PETG is compared with unfilled PETG-type averages, PETG-CF with CF averages, and PETG-GF with GF averages. Tick “Include all reinforcement types” to compare against all variants in each material type. The dropdown follows the visible filters above, while the material-type averages are calculated from the full database so filtered manufacturer views still compare against all tested filaments of the same type.

Links and public reports for visible materials

This database is continuously expanding. YouTube review buttons open 3DPIceland Labs reviews when available, while Product page buttons open the manufacturer or reseller page for the filament. Public report buttons appear only for MaterialIDs explicitly selected for public reporting in the Engineering Platform. If a review link is missing or not working yet, the review video is still in production or scheduled for a future release.

Strength vs Consistency

Use this chart to find materials that are not only strong, but also repeatable. Points far right but low down are strong but inconsistent; points high up but left are predictable but weaker.

Upper-right materials combine high impact resistance with high stiffness. Lower-right materials are stiff but more brittle; upper-left materials absorb impact better but are less stiff.

Colors represent material families
This premium map works like a filament ecosystem overview: right means higher impact performance, up means higher stiffness, and larger bubbles have a higher overall combined strength rating. Use the mode selector to switch between individual filaments and material-family averages.

Hidden Gems highlights filaments that perform well across multiple dimensions, even if they are not necessarily ranked #1 in tensile, impact or stiffness alone.

CF / GF / Unfilled Comparison

Most Predictable Manufacturers
